The IT Dept - Case Studies
The IT Dept works with a wide diversity of clients, from a range of business sectors, with one common factor linking them all - the desire for proactive IT maintenance and support.
We have shown below Case Studies of how we have helped just two of our clients recently.
- The Company: Accountancy practice.
- The Problems
- Server needed re-booting once or twice daily
- Server often failed to come back to life immediately following re-boot
- Backup was known not to have worked for "months"
- PCs took so long to boot that the tea could be brewed - and drunk - during start-up
- PCs very slow during normal operation
- Server based programmes were very slow to respond
- The Solutions
- Server was simply too old to rescue. It had to be replaced, with full data transfer.
- New backup drive and tapes, with robust software, was installed
- £40 memory upgrades for each PC
- PCs cleaned of spy-ware, trojans, ad-ware, etc
- Network configuration corrected to improve efficiency and to ensure server based programmes responded correctly
- New kettle purchased to make brews faster each morning!
- The Company: Internet retailer.
- The Problems
- No emails flowing due to "Denial of Service" spam attack
- Daily re-boot of internet router required to kick-start internet connection
- This Company only sells via the internet and all orders are emailed to them. So, they rely totally on their internet connection and email systems.
- The Solutions
- Exchange Server re-configured to prevent it being used by spammers as an "Open Relay"
- MailMarshal software installed and configured to prevent Denial of Service spam attack
- Router re-configured to allow 2 ADSL lines to act in fail-over mode, so that in the event of one line failing the other line automatically takes over
- Monthly support contract, with fast call-out provision, is now in place to ensure trouble-free computing
